Record-breaking celebration at Stadium 974 transforms the venue into a massive multi-sport and esports destination during Qatar National Sports Day

Qatar’s 2026 National Sports Day celebration at Stadium 974 has earned official recognition from Guinness World Records for creating the world’s largest temporary sports arena, organisers announced Tuesday, February 10.

The record-breaking event, held as part of the nationwide fitness and community celebration on February 10, transformed Stadium 974 and its surrounding areas into a vibrant hub for sport, play and wellness, attracting thousands of participants and visitors.

To achieve the Guinness World Record title, the temporary sports arena covered an expansive 113,169.68 square metres, far exceeding the minimum requirement of 4,025 square metres set by Guinness World Records. Representatives from Guinness confirmed the achievement during a ceremony at the event.

The milestone was delivered through a broad collaboration between the Ministry of Interior, the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Media City Qatar, and Visit Qatar, showcasing Qatar’s commitment to fostering community engagement, healthy lifestyles and inclusive sporting experiences.

Among the highlights was the Media City Qatar Esports Village, one of 13 official zones inside the temporary arena. Designed as a technology-led experience, the village featured console gaming, virtual reality, arcade games and interactive challenges that encouraged movement and competition alongside traditional sports activities. A newly launched mobile game, Khawi, developed by local studio COREGAME Studios, also debuted to the public during the celebration.

Officials said the diverse range of activities, from esports and tech experiences to fitness challenges and sport demonstrations, helped create a dynamic environment that resonated with families, youth and fitness enthusiasts alike, reinforcing the spirit of National Sports Day and Qatar’s broader vision for an active, healthy society.

The Guinness World Record achievement at Stadium 974 underscores Qatar’s expanding role in hosting major community and sporting events, aligning with goals to promote nationwide wellness, innovation and community participation under Qatar National Vision 2030.
