Travelling for Umrah? Health Ministry Says Get These Vaccines First

Planning your Umrah trip? Before you pack your bags, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has one clear message: get vaccinated.

The ministry is urging all citizens and residents travelling for Umrah — especially during Ramadan — to receive essential vaccines to ensure a safe and healthy journey.

The Two Key Vaccines You Shouldn’t Skip

According to MoPH, the most important shots to take before travel are:

  • Meningococcal meningitis vaccine

  • Seasonal influenza vaccine

These vaccines help protect pilgrims from infectious diseases that can spread quickly in crowded areas like the Holy Sites.

The ministry stressed that getting vaccinated significantly reduces the risk of serious health complications during the trip.

Extra Reminder for High-Risk Groups

If you’re a senior citizen, pregnant, living with a chronic illness, or travelling with children, the advice is simple: visit your registered health centre early.

MoPH recommends a medical check-up before travel to make sure you’re fit to go and to receive personalised advice on reducing infection risks.

Don’t Forget Basic Precautions

Beyond vaccines, the ministry is also reminding pilgrims to:

  • Practice good personal hygiene

  • Wear a face mask in crowded areas

  • Follow medical guidance while moving through congested spaces

Simple steps, but they make a big difference.

Vaccines Are Free

All recommended vaccinations are available free of charge at health centres under the Primary Health Care Corporation for those registered.

The ministry is encouraging travellers to get their shots as early as possible to ensure full immunity before departure.

Bottom line: a little preparation now means a smoother, healthier Umrah journey later.
