Qatar's passport has secured a higher position in global mobility rankings, climbing to 45th place in the latest Henley Passport Index. This advancement underscores the country's growing diplomatic influence and enhanced global mobility for its citizens, according to the latest official ranking published on the index's website.
Qatari passport holders can now access 111 destinations visa-free or with a visa-on-arrival. This score places the country ahead of several European and Asian nations, reflecting the nation's expanding international partnerships and travel agreements.
The improvement marks a two-place jump from its 47th position in the January 2026 update, where it also held a score of 111 destinations. While the number of accessible destinations remained consistent, the shift in ranking suggests changes in the relative standings of other nations within the index.
This latest ascent continues a steady upward trend for Qatar. Just over a year ago, in January 2025, the passport stood at 47th after a six-spot gain from 53rd the previous year, when access stood at 108 destinations.
In the broader historical context, Qatar has advanced more than 20 places since the early 2020s. This significant movement reflects sustained progress in international agreements and the nation's strategic efforts to strengthen its global connectivity.
The consistent rise in rankings highlights the effectiveness of Qatar's diplomatic initiatives over the past few years. By securing visa-free access to a growing number of countries, the state is facilitating easier travel for business, tourism, and cultural exchange.
The enhanced ranking offers tangible benefits for Qatari nationals, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and travel costs associated with visa applications. As the passport continues to gain strength, it reinforces Qatar's position as a connected hub in the Middle East and beyond.
Analysts view this progress as a positive indicator of the country's soft power and its ability to negotiate favorable terms in international mobility frameworks. With the current trajectory, Qatar remains committed to expanding the freedom of movement for its citizens on the world stage.
