Qatar Sky to Light Up with Up to 100 Shooting Stars per Hour

Stargazers in Qatar are in for a cosmic treat as the Perseids Meteor Shower — often called the best meteor show of the year — is set to peak from the night of August 12, 2025, until the early hours of August 13, 2025.

According to NASA, skywatchers could spot anywhere from 50 to 100 shooting stars per hour, making this one of the brightest and most reliable meteor events for the Northern Hemisphere. The Perseids are also known for producing fireballs — intense bursts of light and color that last longer than typical meteor streaks.

Best Time to Watch

Experts recommend heading outdoors from midnight to dawn, with the prime viewing window between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. local time. This year, however, the show comes just three days after a full moon, meaning moonlight may reduce visibility for fainter meteors.

Still, many bright meteors should be visible, especially from dark, open areas away from city lights.

The Science Behind the Show

The annual spectacle occurs as Earth passes through a trail of cosmic debris left behind by Comet Swift–Tuttle, which last approached Earth in 1992. Each time our planet crosses the comet’s dusty path, tiny particles burn up in the atmosphere, creating streaks of light across the night sky.

So, whether you’re a seasoned astronomy enthusiast or just looking for a reason to stay up late, mark your calendar for August 12–13 — Qatar’s sky is set to deliver one stellar performance.
