Qatar and Philippines Ink a Visa Exemption Agreement

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. presided over a significant milestone as the two countries signed a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic, private, and official passports.

This historic agreement, along with eight memoranda of understanding, was inked during discussions at the Malacanang Palace in Manila.

The comprehensive talks aimed to bolster the 43-year diplomatic relations between the nations and explore avenues for deeper collaboration across various sectors.

The agreements encompass areas such as sports, youth, combating human trafficking, climate change, tourism, and more.

Sheikh Tamim's visit underscores Qatar's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing mutual interests with the Philippines.

Sheikh Tamim arrived in Manila on Sunday as part of his state visit to three friendly Asian countries — The Philippines, Bangladesh and Nepal.

"My visit to the Philippines comes within the framework of our great interest in developing cooperation with this friendly country and raising our bilateral relations to the optimal level," Sheikh Tamim said in a post on X on Monday.

"The results of my fruitful discussions today with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will contribute to strengthening mutual trade and investment initiatives and serving the common interests of our two countries," the Qatari leader added.
