The push comes in light of a new proposal by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s envoy to the Middle East. Qatar and Egypt say they’re working closely to address the key sticking points in the negotiations and are urging all parties involved to act responsibly and support mediation efforts aimed at restoring calm and stability in the Gaza Strip.

A major goal of this joint effort is to achieve a 60-day temporary truce, a critical step that could pave the way for a permanent ceasefire agreement. The truce would allow much-needed humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, open up border crossings, and ease the suffering of civilians caught in the crisis.

Beyond that, the long-term plan includes rebuilding the Gaza Strip in line with the roadmap set out during the emergency Arab summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen, and the urgency is clear. With international support and regional cooperation, this new phase of talks could offer a real chance to de-escalate tensions and lay the groundwork for lasting peace.
