Katara to Host Traditional Maritime Singing Contest Al Nahma

Embrace the melodies of the sea as Katara Cultural Village Foundation prepares to host the fourth edition of the Al Nahma Musical contest — Naham Al Khaleej — from April 26th to 30th.

This vibrant event celebrates the timeless art of traditional maritime singing, known as Al Nahma, aiming to revive Qatar's and the Gulf region's rich maritime folklore and musical heritage.

Aligned with Katara's commitment to preserving and promoting cultural traditions, Al Nahma Musical promises an immersive experience of Qatar's maritime culture. Held at the Drama Theatre from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the competition will feature top performers vying for substantial rewards.

Participants will compete in two categories — Work Arts and Lafjri Art — each showcasing unique rhythms that narrate different stages of a pearling trip. From setting sail to diving and rowing, these songs offer a glimpse into the challenges and camaraderie of life at sea.

As contestants take center stage, they will transport audiences to a bygone era, where the collective singing of maritime work songs served as a source of solace and motivation for crew members. Through Al Nahma, Katara continues its mission to preserve Qatar's maritime heritage and provide a platform for cultural expression.

Join us for an unforgettable celebration of Qatari folklore and tradition at Al Nahma, where the echoes of the sea come to life through music.
