From Doha to the top of the world—Safrina Latheef just rewrote the record books.

On May 18, at exactly 10:25 a.m. Nepal time, Safrina Latheef stood triumphantly atop Mount Everest, becoming the first-ever Kerala expat based in Qatar to reach the world’s highest peak. Her incredible summit of the 8,848-meter mountain comes after a grueling 20-hour climb through bitter cold, razor-sharp winds, and dizzying altitude.

A long-time Qatar resident since 2001, Safrina lives in Doha with her husband, Dr. Shameel Musthafa, a surgeon at Hamad Medical Corporation, and their daughter, Minha. Her journey to Everest wasn’t a spontaneous leap—it was years in the making.

She’s no stranger to high altitudes. Safrina has already tackled major peaks across the globe, including Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in Tanzania, Aconcagua (6,961m) in Argentina, and Mount Elbrus (5,642m) in Russia. She even trained on icy terrains in Kazakhstan to prep for the Everest challenge.

This climb wasn’t just about setting a record—it was about pushing boundaries, both physical and mental. Her feat now inspires not only Keralites and expats in Qatar but aspiring female adventurers across the region.

Safrina’s Everest win isn’t just a personal triumph—it’s a proud moment for the entire Gulf community.
