If you’ve been waiting to finally wear a jacket in Qatar, January is your moment.
The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has released its January 2026 climate outlook — and yes, it’s officially expected to be the coldest month of the year.
Winter’s Coldest Stretch
January falls right in the heart of Qatar’s winter season, and climatologically, it’s when temperatures dip the most. The average daily temperature is forecast at 17.7°C, making it the coolest month on the calendar.
Cold fronts are also more frequent during this time, bringing noticeable drops in temperature.
Rain and Thunderstorms Likely
QMD says low-pressure systems will be more active in January, which often means unsettled weather. Thunderstorms may pop up, and rain is likely during the second week of the month.
In short: keep an umbrella handy.
Watch Out for Foggy Mornings
Fog is another January classic. According to QMD’s climate records, fog cases are common, especially during the first half of the month. Morning drivers may want to allow extra time and stay alert on the roads.
How Cold Can It Really Get?
History shows January can swing both ways:
-
Coldest January on record: 3.8°C (1964)
-
Warmest January on record: 32.4°C (2015)
While extremes are rare, January is still your best bet for truly cool weather in Qatar.
