Police in Utah have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, the suspect accused of killing right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk. Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Robinson’s capture on Friday, saying he confessed to a friend before being taken in.
The Evidence
Investigators linked Robinson to the attack using engravings found on bullets and chat logs from Discord, shared by a roommate. The bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered. Authorities say Robinson acted alone and has no prior criminal record.
What Happened
Kirk was fatally shot on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. The gunman fired a single round from a sniper’s position, sparking a manhunt that lasted more than 24 hours before Robinson’s arrest.
The Fallout
Former President Donald Trump, who credited Kirk with mobilizing young voters in his election win, announced the arrest before officials confirmed it. The State Department has also warned that celebrating Kirk’s killing online could lead to visa denials or deportations for foreign nationals.
