Authorities detain hundreds for filming and sharing videos and rumours that violated official directives during ongoing developments.

Authorities in Qatar have arrested more than 300 people for filming and circulating misleading information online, according to the Ministry of Interior (Qatar).

In a statement issued on Monday, March 9, 2026, the ministry said that the Economic and Cyber Crimes Prevention Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations detained 313 individuals of various nationalities. The arrests were linked to the filming and distribution of unauthorized video clips as well as the spread of rumours and misleading content online.

Officials said the suspects were accused of publishing materials intended to incite public concern and violate official directives related to the current situation in the country. Legal and administrative measures have been taken against those involved.

The ministry stressed the importance of refraining from filming or publishing videos about ongoing developments and warned against sharing unverified information on social media or other platforms. Authorities urged the public to rely only on approved official sources for updates and accurate information.

Officials also warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found spreading rumours, misleading content, or materials that could provoke public concern or undermine public order.

The arrests come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing developments in the Gulf, with authorities emphasizing the need to maintain stability and prevent the circulation of misinformation during sensitive situations.
