7.5-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Davao Oriental, Tsunami Alert Issued

Residents in parts of Mindanao woke up to a powerful jolt as a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit the waters off Manay, Davao Oriental, at around 9:43 a.m. on October 10, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, centered 62 kilometers southeast of Manay, a coastal town in Davao Oriental. Phivolcs initially recorded it at magnitude 7.6 before revising it to 7.5.

Where the Tremor Was Felt

The shaking was felt across several parts of Mindanao. Davao City reported an Intensity V, while Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, logged Intensity IV.

Instrument readings showed Intensity V in Southern Leyte, Misamis Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, Cotabato, Sarangani, and South Cotabato, and Intensity IV in parts of Cebu, Bukidnon, and Eastern Samar, among others.

Tsunami and Aftershock Warnings

Phivolcs warned of possible damage and aftershocks following the major quake and issued a tsunami threat for nearby coastal areas. Residents were urged to stay alert and follow updates from authorities.

So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage.
