Qatar Named Most Peaceful Country in MENA for 2025

Qatar has officially been named the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI) released by Vision of Humanity. With an impressive score of 1.593, the country now ranks 27th globally, outpacing most of its regional neighbors.

Only 3 MENA countries make the global top 50

According to the GPI, only three MENA nations made it to the top 50 most peaceful countries in the world—Qatar, Kuwait (2nd in MENA), and Oman (3rd in MENA).

Globally, the top three most peaceful countries are:

  • Iceland (1st)

  • Ireland (2nd)

  • New Zealand (3rd)

How peace is measured in the GPI

The Global Peace Index evaluates countries based on their level of Negative Peace, or the absence of violence and fear of violence. It breaks peace into three core areas:

Ongoing Domestic & International Conflict

Assesses how involved a country is in internal and external conflicts—factoring in frequency, intensity, and duration.

Societal Safety & Security

Looks at internal stability, including crime rates, political unrest, and general social harmony.

Militarisation

Examines military spending, arms availability, and the overall impact of military presence on a country’s peace level.
