The Qatar Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a stern warning to businesses and retail outlets: adjusting the prices of goods or services without prior approval is a legal violation.

The notice, released on 6 March 2026, reminds establishments that price adjustments must follow Law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and Law No. 12 of 1972 on Mandatory Pricing and Profit Determination, including all amendments.

Penalties for violations

The Ministry outlined the penalties for unauthorized price changes, which include:

  • Imprisonment from one month to one year

  • Temporary closure of the establishment for up to one month

  • Financial fines of up to QR 1,000,000

  • Seizure and confiscation of goods involved

  • Double penalties for repeat offences

Procedures businesses must follow

To legally adjust prices, establishments are required to:

  • Obtain prior approval from the Ministry

  • Report any changes to registered information

  • Electronically register prices

  • Avoid tampering with paper or digital pricing documents

The Ministry stressed that following these procedures is essential for maintaining market stability and avoiding legal consequences.
