US President Donald Trump is set to meet New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani in the Oval Office this Friday, November 21. The announcement came after Trump spent much of the campaign attacking the 34-year-old Democrat, even labeling him a “communist” on social media.
Mamdani’s camp confirmed the meeting, saying it’s a standard step for any incoming mayor to sit down with the president and talk through major city concerns.
What They Plan to Discuss
According to Mamdani’s spokesperson, the meeting will focus on public safety, economic security, and affordability — the same issues that helped him win over a million votes, making him the first NYC mayoral candidate to hit that number since 1969.
Mamdani, who campaigned on more affordable housing, childcare support, free bus rides, and city-run groceries, enters office with big promises — and plenty of questions about how he’ll deliver them.
Clashing Backgrounds, Same Hometown
Both men grew up in Queens, but that’s where the similarities stop. Trump often highlights Wall Street gains, while Mamdani has zeroed in on New York’s rising cost of living. Their exchanges have been tense, with Trump mocking Mamdani’s name and threatening federal funding cuts.
Mamdani has fired back publicly, even calling out Trump during his victory rally — a moment the White House later confirmed Trump watched.
