Saudi Arabia and Qatar just said yes to a huge project: a high-speed electric railway connecting Riyadh and Doha. The agreement was signed during Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit to Riyadh, with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman leading the talks.

What the Rail Line Will Look Like

This isn’t your usual train. It’s built to hit speeds of over 300 km/h, cutting the Riyadh–Doha trip to roughly two hours—almost as quick as flying, minus the airport hassle. The route will also run through Al-Hofuf and Dammam, expanding access within Saudi Arabia.
