Qatari motorsport legend Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah has written his name deeper into rallying history by clinching a record-breaking 20th FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) title for the 2025 season.
Al Attiyah sealed the championship after finishing second at the 47th Lebanon International Rally, the fifth round of the series. Driving a Skoda Fabia RS with Spanish co-driver Candido Carrera, the Qatari ace completed the rally in 1 hour, 49 minutes, 45 seconds — just 9.2 seconds behind Lebanese winner Roger Feghali and co-driver Joseph Matar, who clocked 1:49:36 in a Toyota GR Yaris.
Although Feghali secured the rally victory, his non-registration in the MERC allowed Al Attiyah to claim maximum championship points, locking in the title one round before the season finale in Cyprus from October 3 to 5.
The podium was rounded off by Lebanon’s Elias El Dahdah and Italian co-driver Nicola Arena in a Skoda Fabia with a time of 1:53:05. Saudi driver Basil Abu Hamdan (Volkswagen Polo) and Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al Kuwari (Skoda Fabia RS) completed the top five.
Al Attiyah’s dominance this season was underpinned by victories in the opening four rounds held in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, showcasing his unrivaled consistency in regional rallying.
Meanwhile, his co-driver Candido Carrera had already clinched the MERC Co-Drivers’ Championship ahead of the Lebanon round, adding further glory to the partnership.
With this triumph, Nasser Al Attiyah further cements his status as one of the most decorated rally drivers in motorsport history.
