The victory marked Alcaraz’s third win over Fils in as many meetings on the ATP Tour and added another milestone to the Spaniard’s growing career tally.
The 25-time title winner, who recently captured the 2026 Australian Open crown, lifted the Qatar trophy for the first time in his second consecutive appearance in Doha. He had exited the 2025 edition in the quarterfinals after a three-set loss to Jiri Lehecka.
Alcaraz opened his 2026 campaign with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, followed by a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Valentin Royer to reach the quarterfinals.
He then rallied past defending 2024 champion Karen Khachanov 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 before overcoming 2025 champion Andrey Rublev 7-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Strong tournament run for Arthur Fils
Fils entered the final after an impressive run through the draw. The Frenchman opened with a three-set win against Kamil Majchrzak, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, and followed with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Quentin Halys in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals, he defeated Lehecka 6-3, 6-3, before advancing to the final with a straight-sets semifinal win over Jakub Mensik, 6-4, 7-6.
Alcaraz’s commanding performance in Doha reinforces his status as the top-ranked player on the ATP Tour and highlights the Qatar ExxonMobil Open’s continued prominence on the international tennis calendar.
