A star-studded table read of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is set to take place in London next month to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians. Leading the cast are actors Ambika Mod, Daisy Ridley, and Morfydd Clark, with more celebrity names still to be announced.
The event highlights the power of the arts to drive humanitarian support.
Organized by Cinema for Gaza, the table read will be hosted by stand-up comedian, TV presenter, and podcaster Nish Kumar. Scheduled for October 12, the performance will combine entertainment with urgent fundraising for life-saving healthcare in Gaza.
Other confirmed stars include Jameela Jamil, Susan Wokoma, Mawaan Rizwan, Priya Kansara, Amar Chadha-Patel, Jeff Mirza, Shazia Mirza, and Asim Chaudhry. Together, they will bring Austen’s beloved characters to life, promising a witty, imaginative take on the classic novel.
Directed by Nida Manzoor, creator of the acclaimed series We Are Lady Parts, the reading is billed as a “fun and imaginative tribute” to Austen’s enduring tale. The event description teases Mr. Darcy’s awkward encounters with Elizabeth Bennett, Mr. Bingley’s clashes with the Bennet family, and plenty of “repressed flirting” alongside hard-won happy endings.
This event also marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, making the performance a timely celebration of one of literature’s most beloved authors. The table read’s playful approach promises to captivate audiences while honoring Austen’s sharp wit and timeless themes.
According to Cinema for Gaza, all proceeds will go directly to Medical Aid for Palestinians, supporting its polyclinic in Gaza and other critical operations. Despite the ongoing siege and displacement in the region, the polyclinic continues to provide vital healthcare, and the fundraiser aims to bolster these efforts.
By bringing together some of the UK’s most recognized talents, the Pride and Prejudice table read shows how art and activism can intersect to make a tangible difference in the lives of people affected by conflict. This October, fans of Austen, humanitarian causes, and British talent alike have a chance to support a vital initiative while enjoying a unique theatrical experience.
