When the QRCS delegation arrived at Caracas airport, they were received by His Excellency Salman bin Nabit Al Khulaifi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, together with staff from the Qatari Embassy and local officials.
He said the move reflects Qatar’s strong humanitarian role and its continued support for countries around the world in times of crisis.
“The arrival of this fully integrated medical and relief convoy shows the strong relations and humanitarian ties between Qatar and Venezuela,” he added. “The Embassy will provide all possible support to help the delegation achieve its important humanitarian mission.”
QRCS Team Includes Medical, Relief and Psychosocial Support Groups
The QRCS delegation includes a group of specialists divided into three main teams working together to provide the best humanitarian response.
The relief team is responsible for assessing needs and distributing emergency aid. The medical team, made up of consultants and surgeons from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and QRCS, is carrying out medical examinations, consultations, and surgeries for injured and affected people. The psychosocial support (PSS) team is offering rehabilitation programmes and mental health support to help affected families recover and stay strong.
Before the start of the humanitarian operations, representatives from QRCS, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), and the Venezuelan Red Cross held a coordination meeting to review the humanitarian situation, identify urgent needs, and discuss relief work, especially in the health sector.
Medical and Relief Shipments Delivered to Venezuela
Two humanitarian aid shipments from QRCS arrived through the Qatari relief aircraft, carrying 16 tons of medical supplies and 24 tons of hygiene items.
His Excellency Ernesto Villegas Poljak, Permanent Ambassador of Venezuela to UNESCO, expressed his government’s sincere thanks and appreciation to the Qatari government and humanitarian organisations for this important support.
QRCS relief staff, together with the Venezuelan Red Cross, visited the earthquake-affected areas to see the damage firsthand and follow up on response efforts.
According to the people affected, the main needs in temporary shelters include shelter items, clean drinking water, hygiene kits, and psychosocial support services, especially for children.
A field assessment meeting was then held to share information and set the main humanitarian priorities. The teams also visited the field hospital set up by the Venezuelan Red Cross and several National Societies.
At the end of the visit, both sides agreed to continue close coordination to make sure aid reaches people quickly and to increase medical and relief support for those affected by the earthquake.
