Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has introduced a new feature that lets users connect two digital wallets to the same mobile number. The update is part of efforts to boost the Qatar Mobile Payment (QMP) system — the country’s official instant mobile payment platform.
The feature was launched in line with QCB’s Third Financial Sector Strategy, aiming to improve the way people manage mobile payments across providers.

What this means for mobile wallet users
With this new option, anyone using QMP can now:
-
Open two wallets with different payment service providers under the same mobile number
-
Choose one wallet as the default for receiving incoming transfers
-
Switch their default wallet anytime through account settings
This move gives users more control over how they handle digital payments and is expected to make it easier to manage multiple accounts at once.
Boosting digital payments and competition
The launch is seen as a big step for Qatar’s financial sector, encouraging more flexibility, innovation, and competition between service providers. QCB also sees this as a push towards greater financial inclusion, making mobile payments more accessible for everyone in the country.
QMP brings together all licensed mobile payment service providers in Qatar under one platform, offering a faster and unified way to send and receive money.
More features expected soon
The Qatar Central Bank says the update reflects its ongoing commitment to improving digital finance and building a stronger, more inclusive financial ecosystem. As mobile payments continue to grow, more features are expected to be added to QMP in the near future.
