Queen Rania: Gaza Forces Us to See With Moral Clarity

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah delivered a powerful speech at Mexico’s Siglo XXI Conference, describing Gaza as the lens that compels us to see matters with moral clarity and urging a global reassessment of values and leadership.

Addressing thousands of university students at the Telmex-Telcel Foundation’s annual youth event, Queen Rania described the scale of destruction in Gaza as “catastrophic,” condemning civilian suffering and calling for moral courage in a world overwhelmed by distraction and misinformation.

“The scale of destruction we are witnessing in Gaza is catastrophic. Its brutality is undeniable… Homes and histories are being crushed under the rubble… Tens of thousands of people have been killed,” she said.

Her Majesty criticized the erosion of moral conscience, stating that “there is no world in which it is justifiable to bomb hospitals, starve children, or shoot at people seeking aid.” She emphasized that true civilization is not measured by GDP but by compassion, dignity, and the treatment of others during times of crisis.

Queen Rania praised young people worldwide who have spoken out against Palestinian suffering, describing their stance as “an embodiment of moral courage in a disoriented world.” She urged students to hold on to their “moral anchor,” saying faith, compassion, and human dignity must guide societies.

The Queen concluded with a Qur’anic verse (Surah Al-Hajj, 46), stressing the responsibility of individuals to keep their hearts and moral compass awake.

The session began with welcoming remarks by Carlos Slim, Chairman and CEO of Telmex, and highlighted Queen Rania’s achievements in education, human rights, and development. She later engaged in open dialogue with students on global conflicts, technology, cultural diversity, and women’s empowerment.

The Siglo XXI Conference connects top university students in Mexico with leading global voices, encouraging dialogue on leadership, values, and the future of civilization.
