The Gaza Strip’s Health Ministry says that Israeli military attacks overnight have killed at least 104 people, including 46 children, and wounded a further 253 across Gaza.
These strikes represent a serious breach of the truce agreed on October 10, during which at least 211 Palestinians have been killed and 597 wounded, while 482 bodies have been recovered since the deal began.
Since the full-scale war launched in October 2023, the Health Ministry reports that Israeli operations in Gaza have resulted in at least 68,643 deaths and 170,655 wounded, underlining the profound scale of the humanitarian crisis.
The overnight assault appears to have been ordered by Benjamin Netanyahu following an exchange of fire in Rafah and an alleged killing of an Israeli soldier, prompting Israeli forces to “resume enforcing the ceasefire” after delivering heavy bombardment to Gaza.
In Gaza, the impact was immediate and devastating: hospitals reported more than a dozen casualties among children, with one facility receiving 13 child-victims and other bodies arriving amid scenes of mass trauma.
For residents under the truce, this offensive signals a sharp reversal in hopes for peace. With tents for displaced persons, homes and areas near hospitals among the sites hit, Palestinian officials described the attack as “catastrophic” and called on mediators to hold Israel accountable.
Internationally, the escalation is raising alarm. The fragility of the ceasefire—with thousands still displaced and entire regions under siege—now appears increasingly untenable. Analysts say the events may force a recalibration of strategy by both sides and their mediators.
