A shocking act of gun violence rocked New York City on Monday after a lone gunman opened fire inside a Midtown skyscraper, leaving four dead — including a young NYPD officer — before taking his own life, according to city officials.

The attack unfolded inside 345 Park Avenue, a high-profile tower that houses the NFL headquarters and major financial firms like Blackstone and KPMG. Authorities say the shooter, identified as a man who had recently traveled from Las Vegas, acted alone.

One of the victims was a 36-year-old NYPD officer with just over three years on the force. The other three were civilians working in the building.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the suspect shot himself in the chest at the end of the rampage. “He acted alone,” Tisch said, noting that investigators are still working to uncover a motive behind the deadly attack.

The suspect had no major criminal record, and a photo shared by police, showing him carrying a rifle as he entered the building, has since circulated across major media outlets.

The FBI’s New York field office responded quickly to assist local law enforcement, while a large police presence locked down the surrounding area in Midtown.

As the investigation unfolds, New Yorkers remain shaken by the deadly incident in one of the city's busiest commercial hubs.
