EV Charging Stations Launched at Hamad International Airport

Hamad International Airport (HIA) has officially launched electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for the public, reinforcing Qatar’s drive toward sustainability and green mobility, officials announced this week.

The new charging infrastructure was introduced in partnership with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) as part of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, known as Tarsheed, a national initiative aimed at enhancing energy conservation and reducing carbon emissions in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Located on the ground level of the airport’s East car park, the fast-charging stations can serve two vehicles simultaneously and deliver up to 50 kilowatts of power, providing approximately 125 kilometres of driving range in around 30 minutes.

Integration with the Tarsheed Smart EV mobile app allows users to locate active charging points, monitor their session in real time, start or stop charging remotely and track electricity usage.

The initiative underscores HIA’s commitment to incorporating energy-efficient practices and supporting the growth of electric mobility among residents, travellers and airport visitors.

It also aligns with broader efforts across Qatar to expand the EV charging network and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation.

By adding EV infrastructure at a major international travel hub, HIA and KAHRAMAA aim to elevate convenience for electric vehicle drivers while contributing to national goals of cutting emissions and enhancing resource efficiency.

The launch represents one of several steps Qatar is taking to build a more robust charging network nationwide, helping pave the way for a cleaner, greener future in transport.
