Ancient Galaxy Discovery Could Reveal the Universe’s First Generation of Stars

The astronomers find a very old galaxy in the deep universe, giving them a new and unique window into the cosmic dawn. This pristine stellar system originates only a couple of hundred million years after the Big Bang. Its weak, elongated light is not strong enough by itself to be analysed, but by combining it with other weak light from Population III stars, researchers are closing in on the discovery of these stars. These theoretical pure stars were the first to illuminate the universe, thus setting the boundaries of the evolution of matter and structure in our universe.
