Good news for night owls — the UAE and four other GCC countries just scored a spot in the world’s top 10 safest countries to walk alone at night, according to Gallup’s latest Global Safety Report.

Singapore still takes the crown at number one, but Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE are all holding strong in the rankings, ahead of many European powerhouses.

Safety Levels Always Consistent

Gallup’s managing editor Julie Ray explained that safety scores in the GCC have been rock solid for years. In the UAE, for example, confidence in nighttime safety has never dipped below 90%. That kind of consistency is rare globally.

Why People Feel Safe

It’s not just about low crime. Factors like strict law enforcement, visible security presence, and heavy investment in infrastructure all play a part. Plus, people in the UAE report high satisfaction with their communities — and that connection makes them feel even safer.

Global Snapshot

Overall, 73% of adults worldwide said they feel safe walking alone at night, the highest level since Gallup started the survey back in 2006. On the flip side, many African nations landed at the bottom of the list, with people reporting much lower levels of nighttime security.
