Trump Calls Putin “Crazy” After Deadly Strikes on Ukraine
Russia launched a record-breaking drone assault on Ukraine overnight, killing at least 13 people. Ukrainian officials said the victims included three children aged 8, 12, and 17 in the north-western Zhytomyr region. Additional fatalities were reported in the Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed it shot down 45 Russian missiles and 266 drones—out of a total of 298 launched, the highest number recorded so far.
Kyiv described the strikes as creating an atmosphere of “terror,” with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating that continued global silence only encourages Russia. “Sanctions will certainly help,” he posted online.
Trump Breaks Silence on Putin’s Actions
In a surprising shift in tone, former US President Donald Trump criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him “crazy” after the deadly drone strikes.
“I've always had a good relationship with Putin, but something has changed. He’s gone absolutely crazy,” Trump said on his Truth Social account. He warned that if Putin attempts to take all of Ukraine, “it will lead to the downfall of Russia.”
Trump also expressed anger toward Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, accusing him of being unhelpful and “causing problems” with his public remarks.
Kremlin Responds to Trump's Remarks
The Kremlin brushed off Trump’s statements, suggesting they were emotional reactions. “Everyone is emotionally overloaded right now,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier, Trump told reporters he was “not happy” about the attack and was considering more sanctions on Russia. “He’s sending rockets into cities and killing people. I don’t like it,” he added.
Largest Prisoner Swap Since War Began
Despite escalating attacks, Ukraine and Russia confirmed a major prisoner exchange on Sunday. Each side released 303 soldiers—making it the biggest swap since the start of the invasion in February 2022. Over 1,000 captives in total have been exchanged under this recent agreement, which stemmed from May 16 talks in Istanbul.
President Zelenskyy confirmed the swap was completed.
Global Leaders Call for Stronger Sanctions
European leaders joined the call for more pressure on Moscow. Estonia’s foreign minister Kaja Kallas said Russia remains “bent on more suffering,” while German foreign minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that Putin “does not want peace” and called for tougher sanctions at the EU level.
