The diplomats were part of an official delegation in Egypt for high-level discussions aimed at securing a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, according to reports.
Egyptian state-linked outlet Al-Qahera News reported that five Qatari nationals and an Egyptian driver were in the vehicle when the driver lost control of the steering wheel, leading to the fatal crash.
In a statement, the Qatari embassy expressed “deep sorrow and grief” over the loss of its diplomats.
“The deceased and injured will be transferred to Doha on a Qatari plane today,” the statement read. “The two injured are currently receiving the necessary medical care at Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital.”
Qatar, alongside Egypt and the United States, has played a key role in ongoing mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas, which led to the recently announced Gaza ceasefire taking effect at 0900 GMT on Friday.
The tragic incident comes just a day before Sharm el-Sheikh hosts a major peace summit chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The summit will gather representatives from more than 20 nations to discuss pathways to ending the conflict in Gaza.
Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified the deceased as Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Ghanem Al Khayarin and Hassan Jaber Al Jaber. It added that two staff members — Abdullah Issa Al Kuwari and Mahma Abdul Aziz Al Buainain — were injured.
