Thousands of years ago the land of North America was filled with the most fearsome of beasts, but nothing was as terrifying as the giant short-faced bear. Prehistoric, "Arctodus simus" was a "titanic" that dominated the continent during the Pleistocene period. It was much bigger than any bear today, and one of the biggest terrestrial mammalian carnivores to ever have existed.
