Tensions in the region surged again on Tuesday after Israel accused Iran of violating a newly brokered ceasefire and ordered military strikes on Tehran in response.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he had directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to resume high-intensity operations after Iran allegedly launched missiles at Israel—despite a mutual truce declared earlier in the day.

“In light of Iran’s blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States — through the launch of missiles toward Israel — and in accordance with the Israeli government's policy to respond forcefully to any breach, I have instructed the IDF... to continue high-intensity operations targeting regime assets and terror infrastructure in Tehran,” Katz stated.

The IDF confirmed it was actively working to intercept incoming Iranian missiles following detection of the launch.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israel had said it would pause its military campaign against Iran, launched on June 13, having “achieved all operational goals.” The ceasefire was reportedly coordinated with U.S. President Donald Trump, who publicly urged both nations not to escalate further.

“Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, noting that the truce was contingent on Iran halting its retaliatory attacks.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had echoed the sentiment, stating Tehran would stop its counterstrikes if Israel ceased attacks as of 4:00 a.m. local time.

The ceasefire announcement had briefly sparked hope of de-escalation, with President Trump posting on Truth Social, “The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it!”

But with new missile activity reported and fresh strikes underway, the fragile truce now appears to be unraveling rapidly.
