What the Law Says

Under Article 94 of Qatar’s Traffic Law, driving without a valid Qatari license is no small violation. Courts can impose:

  • Jail time from one month to three years

  • Fines ranging from QR10,000 to QR50,000

  • Or both, depending on the case

Once recorded, the offence cannot be settled on the spot and must go through the legal process.

Who This Rule Applies To

This applies to anyone driving without a legally accepted license in Qatar, including:

  • Drivers who never obtained a license

  • Drivers with expired licenses

  • Drivers using a license not valid in Qatar

In short: no valid license, no legal right to drive.

Forgot Your License Card? That’s Different

If you’re licensed but left the physical card at home, you’re not automatically in trouble. Officers can verify your license digitally using the Metrash app.

That said, carrying the physical card is still the safer move—phones die, apps glitch, and checkpoints don’t wait.

Why Authorities Are Strict About It

Unlicensed drivers raise risks for everyone on the road. Without proper training or testing, one mistake can trigger serious accidents—especially at high speeds.

The message from authorities is clear: if your license isn’t valid, the car shouldn’t leave the parking spot.
