Expected conditions over the next 50 years will be much harsher for certain areas of the U.S. and beyond. Forecasts for the 50 years indicate that environmental conditions will worsen in several locations in the U.S. during the middle-to-late century. Sea level rise, extreme weather events and other factors, such as an increasing temperature and humidity, will affect living conditions in coastal cities, in dry areas and in areas of high population density. Researchers highlight the importance of adaptation, mitigation and long-term strategies to be better prepared for risk and increase resilience of communities around the world.
