Attacks Reported at Multiple Locations
The strikes reportedly hit several areas near aid points set up by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Medical staff in Khan Younis said six people were killed while approaching a center in Rafah. Meanwhile, doctors in Shifa and Al Quds hospitals confirmed that at least 25 more were killed and dozens injured in central Gaza, near the former settlement of Netzarim.
Another 10 people were reportedly killed in an Israeli air strike in Khan Younis later the same day.
"Fired on While Waiting for Food"
Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP that over 30 bodies and around 200 injured individuals were taken from the site near the American aid center after what he described as Israeli tank and drone fire on crowds waiting for food.
According to Bassal, thousands had gathered as early as 2am to queue for aid. "The shooting intensified around 5:30am," he said.
Israeli Military Responds
The Israeli military said it had fired warning shots in the area overnight, calling it an “active combat zone.” A statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they are reviewing reports of injuries and deaths.
Aid Access Comes Under Fire
This is not the first deadly incident at Gaza aid sites since the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began operations on May 27. Gaza's health ministry says at least 163 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded while trying to access aid from the foundation’s centers in just two weeks.
Despite being backed by the US, the foundation has faced criticism from multiple humanitarian organizations. The United Nations has refused to coordinate with it, raising concerns over its methods and impartiality.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The UN and aid agencies warn that food supplies in Gaza are still critically low. The enclave had been under blockade for three months, leading to fears of widespread famine. Recent escalations have further hindered efforts to provide relief.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Israeli operations have intensified in recent days, resulting in "mass casualties."
