Cannes Documentary Star Killed in Israeli Attack

Fatima Hassouna was a Palestinian photojournalist who documented the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.

A Palestinian photojournalist, who featured in a documentary selected for the Cannes Film Festival, was killed in Gaza City on Wednesday, April 16.

Fatima Hassouna, 25, was killed in an Israeli airstrike along with nine members of her family. She passed away days after the documentary featuring her was selected to be showcased at the Cannes Film Festival. 

The filmmaker Sepideh Farsi has created the documentary, titled Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk. Hassouna has remained in Gaza since the start of the Israeli atrocities in the Strip. She covered civilian evacuations, the aftermath of airstrikes, and funerals. Her work has been published in 'The Guardian' and other renowned international websites.

France’s Association for the Diffusion of Independent Cinema selected Farsi's documentary for their Cannes lineup.
