For almost a hundred years we have known something huge is missing from the universe. Everything we can see only makes up about 5% of all the matter out there and the rest is this invisible, mysterious stuff called dark matter that we can only see through its massive gravity pulling galaxies together. It’s like cosmic glue but we have never caught a particle of it directly. Now, a strange excess of high-energy light right in the middle of our Milky Way galaxy is making scientists excited because new research suggests that glow might actually be the smoking gun for dark matter finally being revealed, although nothing is fully proven yet and scientists are still being careful.
