Train Blast in Balochistan Kills At Least 24; Over 50 Injured

A tragic train blast on Sunday in Balochistan, Pakistan, resulted in the loss of at least 24 lives and left more than 50 people injured. The incident targeted a train carrying military personnel.

Among the victims were army servicemen and their family members. The attack took place in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, where images showed a damaged train carriage lying on its side, with rescuers searching for survivors amid the wreckage.

Witnesses described scenes of people carrying injured passengers, some covered in blood, on stretchers. Armed security forces stood guard to ensure safety during the rescue operations.

According to officials, the train was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar in the northwest. The incident occurred at Chaman Pattak in Quetta, where "an explosive-laden car hit one of the carriages that resulted in a big blast," an official explained.

The explosion caused significant damage, blowing out windows and destroying nearby vehicles. Another official revealed that the army personnel onboard were traveling to celebrate the upcoming Eid holiday.

Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province by land but remains the country’s poorest, facing challenges in education, employment, and economic growth. Separatist groups in the area claim that the government exploits the province’s natural resources without uplifting the local population.
