'The Voice of Hind Rajab' Wins Silver Lion at Venice Film Festival

The Voice of Hind Rajab, a harrowing film recounting the final moments of a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces in Gaza City last year, has won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the 2025 Venice Film Festival.

Directed by acclaimed Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the film is a true-life drama portraying the tragic story of Hind Rajab, whose death during Israel’s ongoing invasion of the Gaza Strip became a symbol of civilian suffering.

The movie received a 23-minute standing ovation at its premiere last week in Venice, drawing global attention and emotional responses from audiences and critics alike.

The top honor of the festival, the Golden Lion, went to U.S. independent director Jim Jarmusch for his gentle comedy Father Mother Sister Brother, which explores themes of family and ageing.

The recognition of The Voice of Hind Rajab marks a milestone for Arab cinema, spotlighting both the human cost of conflict in Gaza and the rising influence of Arab filmmakers on the world stage.
