Temporary Road Closure Announced on Doha Corniche for This Weekend

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has announced a temporary road closure on Doha Corniche this weekend, affecting key routes along the waterfront as part of traffic arrangements for the Doha Marathon.

According to officials, the closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, until 2 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026. During this period, traffic will be completely halted on sections of the Corniche from West Bay near Sheraton Grand to Old Doha Port, including adjacent roads near Al Bidda Park, Amiri Diwan and Souq Waqif.

Partial closures and diversions will also be in place on certain approaches to the Corniche to facilitate smooth traffic management throughout the weekend.

Authorities have advised motorists planning to travel through the affected areas to use alternative routes and follow posted directional signs to avoid delays. The temporary restrictions are designed to ensure the safety of participants and spectators during the marathon and to support the event’s logistical requirements.

The announcement comes as part of broader efforts often seen in the capital to manage traffic around major events. The Corniche, a major thoroughfare along Doha’s waterfront, has seen similar temporary closures in past months for road works and development initiatives, underscoring ongoing infrastructure activities and event coordination across the city.

Drivers are encouraged to stay updated on traffic updates and follow guidance from traffic authorities when planning their journeys this weekend.
