The Vice President of the US Kamala Harris called for an immediate, six-week ceasefire in Gaza on Sunday, Mar. 3.

VP Harris was at an event in Selma, Alabama, where she said, "Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire for at least the next six weeks, which is currently on the table."

The video of Harris was shared on her Instagram page.

Harris explained that the temporary ceasefire would give enough time to get the Israeli hostages out and to get the humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Harris also said that Israel must do more to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza including opening more border crossings and committing to not impose "unnecessary restrictions".

She also said, "This would ensure...the right of the Palestinian people to dignity, freedom, and self-determination."

Harris also addressed the attack that occurred on Feb. 29, Thursday, which killed 100 Palestinians trying to get food aid.

The US VP said, "Our hearts break for the victims of that horrific tragedy,", empathizing with Palestinian families in Gaza.
