Shah Rukh Khan Wins His First National Award

Shah Rukh Khan has achieved a long-awaited milestone by winning his first National Film Award at the 71st National Film Awards, held in New Delhi. He was honoured by President Droupadi Murmu at the Vigyan Bhawan.

The award is for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan, directed by Atlee. The film, which saw SRK play dual roles and offered both action and social commentary, helped him finally receive this coveted recognition.

Interestingly, the Best Actor award this year was shared between Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey, who was recognised for his role in 12th Fail. As per norms, both actors will receive medals and certificates, but the cash prize of ₹2 lakh for the category is split, leaving each with ₹1 lakh.

For SRK, this recognition comes after a prolific cinematic journey spanning over three decades. Despite delivering numerous memorable performances, this is the first time he has been formally recognized with India’s top acting honour.

Other highlights of the 71st National Film Awards include Rani Mukerji winning her first National Award for Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway; the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award going to Malayalam legend Mohanlal; and 12th Fail clinching Best Feature Film.

Shah Rukh’s reaction to the award has been one of gratitude. He called the honour “a moment I will cherish for a lifetime,” acknowledging the years of hard work and the support of his family, colleagues, and fans.
