British-Lebanese actress Razane Jammal is set to take center stage in her first lead role in an Arab production with the highly anticipated historical drama "Asad," scheduled for release across the Middle East on May 21, 2026.
This week, the film's official poster was unveiled, drawing immediate attention for its artistic composition. Inspired by classical oil paintings, the somber image features the star-studded cast dressed in elaborate period costumes, hinting at the grand scale of the production.
Directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab, best known for his work on Marvel's "Moon Knight," the film marks a significant collaboration between Diab and Jammal. In the period drama, Jammal stars alongside Egyptian powerhouse Mohamed Ramadan. They are supported by a formidable ensemble cast including Maged El-Kedwany, Khaled El-Sawy, Sherif Salama, and Ahmed Abdelhamid.
Set against the backdrop of the 1800s, "Asad" is described as a historical action-romance. The production is noted for its massive scope, with 2,000 extras drafted for the filming and large-scale action sequences choreographed by renowned stunt designer Kaloyan Vodenicharov.
A trailer shared by Jammal last year offered a glimpse into the film's intensity, showing scenes of her character being dragged by a horse, juxtaposed with tender moments depicting a budding romance between her character and Ramadan's.
Jammal, who gained international recognition for her portrayal of Lyta Hall in Netflix's 2022 hit series "The Sandman" based on Neil Gaiman's legendary graphic novels, recently reprised her role in the show's second season, which dropped in July in two parts. She has frequently shared behind-the-scenes glimpses from the set on social media.
Beyond her acting career, Jammal continues to expand her creative portfolio. In June, she launched her debut children's book, "Lulu and Blu." Published by Turning Point Books and illustrated by Lebanese artist Sasha Haddad—a graduate of the Cambridge School of Arts—the story aims to captivate young readers with its unique narrative and visuals.
"Asad" promises to be a landmark project for Arab cinema, blending historical drama with high-octane action and romantic storytelling, all anchored by Jammal's commanding performance.
