Pope Leo XIV Led Mass at Sistine Chapel for First Time

Pope Leo XIV led his first mass as head of the Catholic Church at a private gathering at the Sistine Chapel on Friday, May 9.

In his homily, the new pope encouraged the Catholic Chruch to counter the lack of faith. He also disapproved of "settings in which the Christian faith is considered absurd, meant for the weak and unintelligent."

He also emphasized the importance of overcoming the divisions within the Church. He told his fellow cardinals, "I know I can rely on each and every one of you to walk with me".

Pope Robert Prevost was elected as the new Pope on Thursday, May 8 and is due to deliver his first Sunday noon blessing from the Ioggia of St Peter’s on May 11.

He will attend an audience with the media on Monday, May 12, and he is expected to take his first foreign trip at the end of May.
