Fawad Khan’s 'Abir Gulaal' to Be Released After a Long Delay

After a prolonged and politically fraught delay, Fawad Khan’s comeback film Abir Gulaal is finally set for release, globally on August 29, 2025, in over 75 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UAE.

Originally slated for a May 9 release in India, the film’s debut was scrapped following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which ignited widespread outrage and calls to boycott Pakistani artists.

Industry bodies like the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and FWICE vocally opposed the film’s release, leading to its indefinite postponement in India.

The film, directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agrawal, features Vaani Kapoor opposite Fawad Khan and includes acclaimed actors such as Lisa Haydon, Farida Jalal, Ridhi Dogra, and Parmeet Sethi.

Though fans in India are still waiting, Abir Gulaal draws a parallel with Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3which also bypassed India amid tensions, yet achieved strong success overseas.

With its romantic drama centered on redemption, connection, and second chances, Abir Gulaal brings Fawad Khan back after a nine-year hiatus from Bollywood. Though India’s release remains uncertain, the global rollout gives the film a fresh opportunity to reach audiences internationally.
