Before the First Cell: The Primitive Genes Which could Be the Progenitors of all Life on Earth

Biologists generally believe that all known organisms all led to a single common ancestor, commonly referred to as LUCA, the Last Universal Common Ancestor. It is believed that this organism existed over 3.5 billion years ago. Recent genetic work however indicates that some of these genes can even be older than LUCA itself. The results redefine the way scientists perceive the early evolution and the period between chemistry and biology.
