Asia Cup 2025: India Beats Pakistan by 4 Wickets in Super Four Match

India secured a thrilling victory over Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, chasing down a target of 172 with six wickets in hand in Dubai on Sunday.

The win was built largely on blistering batting, disciplined bowling, and key moments seized under pressure.

The defining moment came in the power-packed opening overs when Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill laid the foundation, putting on a blistering 100-run partnership. It was during this phase that India took control, cruising to 105/1 by the 10th over.

Gill’s innings ended just three runs short of a half-century, dismissed by Faheem Ashraf.

Sharma, however, kept the momentum alive with a rapid-fire fifty off just 24 balls, keeping the run rate under control and attacking at will. His composure under pressure was on full display, especially following Gill’s departure.

Pakistan’s innings had its own bright spots, with Sahibzada Farhan top‐scoring with a brisk 58 off 45 balls. A strong second‐wicket stand between Farhan and Saim Ayub (72 runs) looked to have Pakistan in good shape at 91/1. But India’s Shivam Dube put the brakes on their momentum, dismissing Ayub in the 11th over and Farhan in the 15th. These wickets proved decisive in turning the tide.

Despite posting a modest total, Pakistan capitalised on some fielding lapses by India to remain competitive. Abhishek Sharma dropped two catches, Kuldeep Yadav dropped one, and Shubman Gill also spilled one late in the innings.

The clash wasn’t just about runs and wickets; tensions flared during the match. Gill exchanged sharp words with Shaheen Afridi after hitting him for two consecutive fours, and Sharma showed visible frustration following an altercation with Haris Rauf. Even the toss was controversial—India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, declined to shake hands with Pakistan skipper Salman Agha.

India’s tactical changes paid off as well. They brought back experienced campaigners Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, replacing Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, bolstering both their seam and spin options.

In the end, a balanced performance combining aggressive top‐order batting, clutch middle overs bowling, and composure under heat helped India walk away with a well-earned Super Four win over their arch‐rivals. This result keeps their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on track with confidence high.
