Wanda Diamond League Doha Postponed to June 2026
Safety concerns prompt relocation of opening Diamond League event to temperature-controlled venue in Qatar.
The Mazzraty Doha Meeting, originally set to kick off the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, has been postponed from May 8 to June 19, 2026, in a move prioritizing athlete and spectator safety.
The meeting was initially scheduled to take place at the Qatar Sports Club as the opening event of the Diamond League season. However, after weeks of monitoring the situation in Doha and coordinating closely with meeting organizers, Qatari authorities, and other stakeholders, officials made the decision to reschedule.
"The decision has been taken to postpone the meeting in the interests of athlete and spectator safety," the Diamond League announced. "Should conditions allow, it will now be held on 19 June 2026."
Alongside the date change, the meeting will relocate from the Qatar Sports Club to the Khalifa International Stadium. This shift comes as temperatures in Doha are expected to be significantly higher in June compared to May.
The Khalifa International Stadium offers a crucial advantage: it is temperature-regulated, having previously hosted both the Diamond League and the World Athletics Championships in 2019. This infrastructure allows athletes to compete safely even under hotter conditions.
The new June 19 date positions Doha as the eighth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, falling between the Bislett Games in Oslo on June 10 and the Meeting de Paris on June 28.

The series is set to begin in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and conclude with the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The Diamond League organization confirmed it will continue to monitor developments in the Middle East in the coming weeks. Both the series and meeting organizers remain committed to delivering the highest level of safe and secure competition for athletes, media, and spectators.
This postponement marks a significant adjustment to the 2026 Diamond League calendar, with organizers emphasizing that safety remains their top priority amid ongoing regional considerations.
