Veteran actor and director Ricky Davao has passed away at the age of 63, talent agency Viva Entertainment confirmed on Friday, May 3.
Davao, whose full name was Frederick Charles Caballes Davao, died peacefully surrounded by his children and loved ones, according to his daughter Ara. She shared that while they chose not to disclose a specific diagnosis, her father “bravely faced complications related to cancer.”

A lasting legacy in film and TV
With a career spanning decades, Davao earned respect in both mainstream and indie circles. He starred in acclaimed films such as Magnifico, The Flor Contemplacion Story, Big Night!, and was a familiar face on television through hit dramas like Pangako Sa’yo, MMK, and Magpakailanman.
He won numerous acting awards, including Best Supporting Actor recognitions from Gawad Urian, FAMAS, Cinemalaya, and QCinema. One of his standout works was FUCCBOIS (2019), which he both starred in and directed.
Still active in recent years
Despite his illness, Davao remained committed to his craft. He appeared recently in Netflix’s Sosyal Climbers and had been cast in the upcoming GMA fantasy series Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre.
Family and fans pay tribute
Davao is survived by his children—Ara, Kenneth, and Rikki Mae—with former wife Jackie Lou Blanco. Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry, with many remembering him as a kind professional and a passionate artist who left an undeniable mark on Philippine cinema.
