Karim Benzema faces the possibility of losing his French citizenship due to statements he made in solidarity with Gaza.

After Gerald Darmanin claimed that the French football player had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the football star's attorney announced that he would file a lawsuit against the interior minister.

Darmanin leveled the accusations after the reigning Ballon d'Or winner and former Real Madrid forward shared a message on social media about the brutal bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Benzema wrote on X, the social media platform, "All our prayers are for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombings which spare no women or children."

Darmanin alleged that Benzema "has a link – as everyone knows – with the Muslim Brotherhood."

Benzema's lawyer, Hugues Vigier, denied the allegation, stating, "This is False! Karim Benzema has no connection whatsoever with this organization." Vigier explained that Benzema was merely expressing his empathy for those living in Gaza.
