A total of 80 national teams will compete in the qualifiers, aiming to secure one of the 31 available spots, as host nation Qatar automatically qualifies. The qualification process spans six windows from November 2025 to March 2027, encompassing 420 games worldwide.

In the European qualifiers, 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four. For instance, Group A features Spain, Georgia, and two teams advancing from pre-qualifiers. The top three teams from each group will progress to the second round, forming new groups where the top three will earn a place in the World Cup.

In the Asian qualifiers, 16 teams, including Qatar, are split into four groups. The top three teams from each group and the best fourth-placed team will advance to the second round. From there, the top three teams from each group and the best fourth-placed team will qualify for the World Cup.

Qatar is part of Group D along with Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and India.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 is scheduled to take place in Qatar from August 27 to September 12, 2027. This marks the first time the tournament will be held in the Arab world, with all matches hosted in Doha.
